While the General Surgery Department at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has a minimum waiting period of three to five months, in Gastro-intestinal Surgery it is six months to one year and the longest waiting period is in the Neuro-surgery department: 18 months to three years.

"The pneumonia is under control with the prognosis being good. Gradually his oxygenation (amount of oxygen in blood purified by the lungs) level has shown improvement and there is no spread of pneumonia," Head of AIIMS Cardiac Thoracic Vascular Sciences Department Sampath Kumar said. The 84-year-old leader was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday last with complaints of fever and chest congestion. Doctors later found that he was suffering from pneumonia.
